Cory Branan stopped by The Slidebar in Fullerton, CA last night for what I like to call the Revival Do-Over with help from Audra Mae and Nicole Vaughn. Vaughn started the night off with some originals and tossed in a few covers to make things interesting. Audra Mae had nothing to hide during her set. She threw in a good mix of songs from her solo effort as well as her record with the Almighty Sound. If the set didn’t have you smiling (What are you? Nuts?) then the hilarious banter did. Cory took the stage right after and then proceeded to get off the stage (To get closer to the crowd). It was definitely a treat seeing him again. I’d never heard of the man until I saw him at The Revival Tour earlier this year at The Troubadour. An amazing musician/songwriter he is, and he really outdid himself this time, even with technical difficulties. He brought out some songs from his new release, Mutt (Via Bloodshot Records), and some old rarities to please the fans, who provided a little help with the lyrics to keep the night going. Laughs and conversations were exchanged during the set and it felt really great being there, even if I couldn’t sing every lyric back. I look forward to seeing any of these three soon. Be there or be somewhere else!

Don’t ever depend on anybody but yourself for your own success.

What a drag.

I don’t think I have anything in common with anyone I know. At least I’m cute.

I’m going to start calling bicycles bimenstruals.

Random Start: NOFX, “Monosyllabic Girl”

If you had told 19-year-old me (who was listening to NOFX’s Punk In Drublic constantly during my freshman year of college, while I was playing baseball but not-so-secretly dreaming of being in a punk rock band) that I’d be touring Europe with them nine years later (Deconstruction Tour 2003), I’d have shit myself.

Not-So-Random Start: Wilco, “I Am Trying To Break Your Heart”

Yankee Hotel Foxtrot turned ten-years-old last week, and amidst the flurry of tweets and tumbls and Facebook posts and tribute articles I saw posted, I made a note to remind myself to revisit YTF. (It has been about two years since I last listened to it. Shame on me.) Well, I finally got around to it this morning, and holy crap…what a flawless record. An absolute classic.

Buy Yankee Hotel Foxtrot here. If you own it already, listen to it. Now, and often.
